We received a lot of compelling pitches from great organizations this round. Anna, Karan and I labored over each one, looking at their site and “search engine landscape,” as well as the novelty and impact of the work they do. More than anything, we wanted a company where we can really make a difference in the business or traffic they get from the web … and where the story of how we do it will be applicable and inspiring to many others.
Lynford Morton launched PhotoTour Excursions a little over a year ago with an idea that’s both simple and novel: help people learn to take great photos while touring DC’s top sights. It’s a service that, according to Lynford, is “embraced wherever I promote it.” He has run a couple of one-day promotions on Groupon and LivingSocial that generated a lot of business and drove high traffic to the site. But “outside of them, the site doesn’t generate much interest,” and they’ve been “actively looking for a [way] to generate some consistent traffic and leads.”
That’s just the kind of challenge we like. We’re fired up to start our work with Lynford and team next week. Stay tuned for the results and how-to videos that capture the process.
